Hi everyone

So run down on the engine, tested the solenoids and they were good, checked the button controls and fixed that wiring and all is good as it should be there now. Changed to the proper oil in the gear case....

Now the issue I'm having is I can shift into reverse, neutral, and forward no problem, but in neutral the driveshaft appears to still be in forward locked, but doesn't spin as fast like when I put the engine into forward. So is this a gear issue or what? It's got me puzzled.

Are you observing this while out of the water (like on muffs)? If so, not to worry.

The motor must be running in order to shift out of forward gear.-----And yes the prop will turn in neutral when on a trailer.-----That has to do with design of gearcase bearings.

But when it shuts off its looking itself back into gear. While it's off I can not turn the prop and if I turn the flywheel by hand it will turn the prop

Yes i just have the motor on a stand but after I shut the motor off it will go into gear. While its off I can not turn the prop and if I turn the flywheel by hand it will turn the prop so obviously its engaged when the motor is off and I'm not sure why when I shut it off in neutral

They are spring loaded to go into forward when motor is NOT RUNNING.-----These motors shift with oil pressure therefor the oil pump in the lower unit must be turning.----Note ---I test these on the work bench.-----With 12 volts to green they shift to neutral after 1 turn of the driveshaft.-----With 12 volts to green and blue together they go to reverse after 2 turns of the driveshaft.------Some will argue , but I consider these to be elegantly simple and well engineered.----There is nothing wrong with your unit !!

Yep, it was advertised as a fail-safe feature. If anything went wrong with the system, such as loss of electrical power, it automatically goes into forward gear so you can get back home.

People still get scared of "electric shift". Better not ride in a modern car then. Most of them have some sort of "electric shift". Computer driven, even. My mother-in-law's Chevy even has electric steering.

Well Iv been working on cars and commercial vehicles all my life and outboards I never touched let alone an electric shift outboard. Knew nothing about it but did some research and used all the knowledge I had and just could not find a problem, and well thats because obviously there isn't one. Thank you all for easing my mind lol
