1963 Johnson 40 HP manual shift and 33 Johnson gear case

Question for the knowledgeable here...
Will the gear case for a 33 HP Johnson fit for a 1963 Johnson 40 HP? I had thought it would as I see lists the same part number for each, however I have been told the 33HP has no thermostat so they are not compatible

I think the bolt pattern is different too.-----Looking for a lower unit ?----Posting your location may help.----Where do you see the same part # ???

Yah-----They look the same to the untrained.----But they are not the same.-----Where do you see the same part # listed ????-----evinrudeparts.ca----Might be able to help you.

I'm in Toronto...engine runs great but gearcase leaks and bolts holding lower half of gearcase onto upper half leak. Would be a shame to scrap this thing

are there any other big twin engines for that era that would fit this? Having problems finding this part

I sent them an email. Nice thing is that they are on the way to the cottage!
