Engine is a 2003 5.7L 350/300HP.

Narrowing down a low fuel pressure issue. Removed the cool fuel fuel pressure regulator ( a real bear to get to and remove )
A few questions:
  • I'd like to test the fuel pressure regulator's function while out of the boat - is this possible ? If so, how do you do it ?
  • Or, I'd replace it - is there an aftermarket or GM equivalent to this part ? The part # is: 861126A 1
  • The fuel filter screen that sits under the pressure regulator is still seated in the cool fuel housing - it looks good from what I can see, besides it's in there pretty well and might be a PITA to remove. Does the fuel flow through the FPR into the screen or from the cool fuel housing, screen into the FPR ( this will let me know which side of the screen would have gunk - if any.
Lastly, there's a brass nut on the end of the fuel pressure regulator - is this removable or is it one with the unit ?

Thx

If the fuel pressure tested 35 PSI with vacuum attached, does that sound within an acceptable range ?

I just tested the FPR and it checks OK. Is it safe to say that once I reinstall the FPR, and disconnect the FPR vacuum, that it would bring me to 43 PSI ?

Reg 861126A1 is 43 psi
Connect air to the inlet with a gauge and regulator. Slowly increase the air and at 43 psi it should be wide open. If not its bad

What is your serial number?
I don't see the nut on the end of the pump as removable

The pressure should be much closer to 43 psi with or without the vacuum attached. The Reg is working, its just the pump is unable to produce the pressure. So either the pump is the issue or there is a restriction between tank and the pump

I reinstalled the FPR and boat started right up after winterization. I'll check pressure again. The pump sounds louder than I remember, but it could just be that I'm focused on it..

If the pump/ cool fuel apparatus was in an easier location to get to, I'd of pulled it already.

Hard to see where there could be a restriction. The SS pre-filter ? The low pressure fuel pump clogged ? Fuel tank vent clogged ?

A pump making "more" noise many times mean its sucking air or their is a restriction down stream, or the pump is worn

Don't see a tank vent issue because it takes longer for that to show up

Don't think you have a low pressure pump, but also don't know your serial number. It may have a boost pump and if it does have one it will be above the fuel filter
