I have a 28 foot Rinker with twin Mercruiser 4.3 carbureted engines. The boat is a 97 model and I assume the engines are the same vintage. The port engine had to be removed to repair a leak that was occurring through the transom. When the engine was reinstalled it ran fine and then mysteriously would not start. I'm certain that it is ignition because I sprayed starting fluid directly into the carburetor and it didn't even pop. There is value in having two engines in that I can compare one to the other. Also I can swap out Parts rather than buying new ones to try. So far I have tested the coil, the electronic ignition peace in the distributor, the distributor cap, the Electronic Component on the outside of the distributor. All of these things work perfectly on the starboard engine, but there is no fire at all in the port. I also jumped the shift interrupter switch. I checked the key switch and everything appears okay there IE no disconnected wires or anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check the emergency lanyard switch at the helm?

I was once anchored out and went to restart the engine. It cranked and seemed to almost want to start, but no go. Someone must have bumped into that stupid switch, because I reset it and all was well.

Thanks for your thought, but my boat has no kill switch at the helm.

Ok, that would have been so simple!

It's good you have the exact engine sitting right next to it.
Keep comparing everything.
Check all the wiring. Maybe something didn't get reconnected, got pinched or pulled out of a connector.
