We are trying to start a 2011 Mercruiser 4.3 MPI on a stand. The engine harness is 14-pin. How do you start the engine? We have tried connecting A and B pins then connected N to +on battery. Starter relay is clicking - nothing else. Any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated. Also - battery is brand new.

Connecting A to B would be a dead short

Connect A to C - turns power on
Jump A to N - cranks motor

battery cables to starter and engine block
jumper from battery+ to + on coil
Jump small inboard pin on solenoid to +12 or short the slave solenoids large lugs

Thank you so much for your quick reply.

I just tried that. Nothing happened.

Battery (+) to battery connection on starter solenoid
Battery (-) to bolt on engine block

Pin A and C - jumped
Pin A then touch N - nothing.

We have checked the 90 amp fuse - OK
Checked the 50 amp fuse - OK and yellow lever pushed up (hidden)
Checked the sets of 4 fuses - OK

Any idea what else to check?

Make sure your wire colours match that of the list in the above post. I generally ignore the pin labels and just look for wire colours.

There's only one pin with 12v on it. Find that with a multimeter, then jump that pin to the purple wire (ignition ON) and that same pin to yellow/black (crank)...

Chris,

thank you.

with (+) battery connected to (+) on starter solenoid and (-) battery to engine block.

with a multi meter, we checked pin A to engine block - no voltage
checked pin A to pin B - no voltage
checked pin B to (+) battery - 12V

90 amp fuse good
50 amp fuse good
sets of 4 fuses (15 amp plus 3 x 20 amp all good)

Any other fuses to check? Not sure why we don't get any voltage to pin A

Something is miss wired, or wire left off
My guess is the red/purple wire (pin A) was left off the starter post or 90 amp fuse

We checked the starter relay and it looks like that was bad. Switched it out with one of the other three relays.

Got 12V between pin A and pin B
Also checked between pin A and engine block and got 12V.

Pin A and C - jumped
Pin A then touch N - clicking noise from relay - nothing starting...

Wires are wires
The pin out is above, if its not working, something is not connected correctly, or not connected

About a year or so ago I rebuilt a 350MPI and also wanted to start it on a stand before putting it back in the boat. I also found a pinout of the connector just like the one above, but like you, the chart didn't match reality.
Basically, ignore the pinout, I haven't found one that's correct yet, just go by the colours.
