hi everyone, i'm new to this forum so i just thought i'd give it a shot. i have a 1991 malibu mystere 5.7 mercruiser and i was out today and it ran fine for the whole day. but on my way back to the docks i was just cruising and the engine died i tried to crank it back over and nothing. i opened the dog house and looked more into the carb but as i was trying to crank it fuel was just dumping out of the carb out of everywhere and it would do it everytime, i do have a electric choke on it but could this be a bad float or clogged carb. any answers would be more than appreciated, thanks!!

fuel dripping from venturis at idle or upon shut down indicate need to remove, disassemble, inspect, clean and probably rebuild carb

guessing it's an mie ski tow with 2bbl carb?

Yep the Quadrajet is a 4bbl, if yours is flooding like that, then there is probably a bit of grit holding the float open or the needle valve is not sealing. The rebuild is not hard but there are some tricks to getting the air horn off, and on, and you have to really clean out the idle air tubes. Note the position of the clip holding the needle to the float flange. It does not go in the holes, that will cause flooding!
Properly cleaned and rebuilt it is an excellent carb.
