Mercruiser 5.0L MPI 2007

i just got a seized engine , salt water on pistons on one side of my V8 305, rebuilding where i am is not an affordable option !
what other options do i have?
i can transfer all other parts as it is all fine but i need rods,pistons,rings,bearing& valves job done.
what ther engines would be interchange-able with Merc 5.0L MPI ?
has any one done this before ?
any ideas ?

The engine is a GM 5.0L so you should be able to use the casting numbers on the engine block and come up with a suitable donor engine. See if you can salvage the camshaft out of the original engine, as an automotive camshaft will have too much overlap.

Two options as they dont make new base engines for votec 5.0 s anymore.

1. Get a reman 5.0 long block from a place like michigan motorz. Swap your components over and get new exhaust manifolds.
2. get a 5.7 base engine new or reman but you’d need to reflash the ECM. There are companies that do this to set up the fuel mapping for the bigger engine or performance engines. A little more work this way but you could get a new base engine and about 40 more hp

3 options. 5.0, 5.7 or 6.2 block and change over ancillary items. Issue then is the ecu. I think the 5.0 may have a different ecu and mapping from the other two. Not certain though.

casting numbers made for marine use by Gm are intrace-able! and you will not find a good cross-reference for aftermarket nor automotive part number although lots of the parts are literally the same. for example Oil pump for Merc is 340$ vs the exact same with the same patent number 34$ from automotive supplier ! 10 times as much literally. what a steep rip !

Q just gave you three. A gm vortec 5.0 or 5.7 out of boat, truck or industrial truck if you prefer a wrecking yard

Huh? GM manufactured blocks are same as trucks as same as gensets. they come out of the Tonawanda engine plant in NY. your 2007 motor long block is exactly same as any 1996 -2000 GM truck 5.0 (GM started putting LS motors in the trucks in late 1999)

not until within the last 6 years did Mercruiser start casting their own variation of the SBC. its a Mercruiser block with GM rotating assembly

Mercruiser did make marinized diesel motors in a joint venture with Cummins. the plant was CMD or Cummins Marine Diesel. the smaller diesels started at 1.7 liters up to about 4 liters. the 4-liter motors were VAG built.

all of these will mate up with the bravo drive (not an alpha, the alpha will not last behind a diesel)

however if you thought replacing a $3000 truck motor was expensive, the cost of one of the diesels is about 10x that.

10243878 = GM 305, 2 bolt mains, Vortec, truck, roller cam, one-piece rear seal 1996-98 model years.
