use a scan tool to check fault codes, otherwise you can keep throwing parts at it til ya succeed

It’s to old to store any codes
mefi will in most cases have some freeze frame codes

regardless, your engine has an active fault, i.e. the audible alarm is sounding thus indicating an active fault. a scan tool will identify this active code

i'll guess at it....intake air temp sensor fault

i know, i read the thread title

tbi with a mefi controller, if you have access to a rinda scan tool or diacom you may retrieve the active fault. mefi 2/3 does have some freeze frame capability but as i stated earlier the fault is active, should be quite easy to retrieve

without using a scan tool, you may as well replace every possible sensor until the problem is corrected

still gonna stick with my guess of the intake air temp sensor fault

What are you working on?
Make, model, year, serial number. For all we know it could be a tractor, in which case we could direct you to the Chambelin John Deer site.

Thanks, comes up 1998 with MEFI-1
The lube oil bottle, over heat and low oil pressure give a constant alarm

Your beep every few seconds is on the list below
MEFI Codes.jpg

To fins out what code, you need a 12V resistor type LED or digital voltmeter with the tone function and a paper clip

Place paper clip and led as shown, turn key ON and start counting flashes. Normal no codes will flash a 12, as in Flash, pause, Fl, Fl, Fl, Fl longer pause. The cycle repeats 3 times

I might be wrong...but I don’t think un plugging the gear oil sensor would be a way of ruling it out.
