It’s a 1988 v20 mercruiser alpha 1 I/O 1 owner just bought it Was well maintained out in water twice stuck twice water in gas then after we cleared it it wouldn’t come out of throttle into gear

Ayuh,..... Is the controller stuck in throttle only,..?? if so, fix the controller,...
Is the forward cable from the control to the shift plate by the motor workin',..??
Can you shift the drive with the lower shift cable removed from the shift plate, manually,..??

Sorry to ask...but are you pushing in the trigger to engage on the remotes

We could not get it into gear at all forward or reverse the shifter itself is old so maybe it needs to be replaced I’m starting to hate boata
