1956 evinrude fastwin 15

I have a 1956 evinrude fastwin 15 that starts and runs fine but after it runs a few minutes it locks up and quits.

maybe heat lock up... when was impeller and water circulation looked into

what about coils and all ...new stuff of old stuff with cracks..... recheck al electricals old coils all crack

and check fuel oil mix ... minimum 25/1 !

impeller working ok? impeller key ok ?
what about electricals...all refurbished ?
by locks up do you mean it jams until cooled if so better recheck water circulation . jacket and cyl.head may be all crudded up
check PH temps with a IR gun

btw is this a new problem .. a new to you motor ?? salt-waer engine ??????

What " locks up "-----Can you turn the flywheel after this event?----Coils in the right position ?---Screws loose on magneto plate.----Lower unit oil checked ?----Motor running in a barrel with water 6 or 8" above the impeller ?

also wonder what "locks up" means.

Oil mix is 24:1. Top of the cylinder head should never be too hot to touch. Do not test using muffs -- barrel or in the lake. Water depth as indicated above. As a rule of thumb, i like the water level about half way up the shaft.

Thanks! I put it in barrel with water, started it up, let it run at idle few minutes, lower unit got very hot.
Recently put new impeller in.
Going to check impeller today.
See if I can figure out what is going on.
Any advice on what the problem could be other than impeller would be appreciated.

gearcase oil been drained and replaced? exhaust blockage somewhere -- pull off the lower, and look up under and around the powerhead for blockages, blockages at the exhaust water outlet above the prop.
