Interchanging Stern Drive Lower unit??

Hi, I have a mercruiser 4.3, Alpha One Gen 2 Stern Drive, ratio of 1:81L.
The housing on my lower unit is damaged. Can I replace the lower unit with a Alpha One, Gen 2 Drive that's a 1.98R

Keep in mind its just the lower unit. not the full outdrive.

should work just fine, gear ratio is determined by the gear set in the upper driveshaft housing

just make sure the water pump is good and pressure test before and after install
