Good morning all hoping to get a bit of help I had to replace my gears in my lower unit and now I am trying to figure out what my proper shift rod height is I believe it’s a short shaft however I would take the adjustments both for a short and long just so I can be sure once I measure the rod itself. The motor is a 1984 Johnson 60hp model number J60TLCRE. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The model # indicates that your motor is in fact a LONG shaft.----It is set at 20-29/32" on your motor.

I just found a post on how to read model number meaning the L means long which indicates 20” however I still don’t know what the shift rod height should be set at racerone

Post # 2 clearly shows the dimension !
Thank you however before the height adjustment wasn’t included in the post that I could see so I apologize do you know non imperial number I am going to make a height adjustment tool from a yardstick so it should be 20.3 or something similar? I really appreciate all the help racerone

Not asking for handout just trying to fix my boat to enjoy sometime on it thought that’s the point of a forum is to help people get back to what they enjoy doing I get that it’s .90625 inches don’t get how that falls on a yard stick

29/32" I think.----Or perhaps you need a better quality measuring device.----Or put your own marks on the yard stick.----Very easy I think.
