I would appreciate some assistance with any trick or techniques to install u joint bellows to the transom side of my mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 1, got everything off, doing reassemble. Can’t seem to stretch the bellows over gimble housing far enough for the nipple that lines the inside if bellows to snap into the groove of the gimble ring. Had adhesive on both sides housing and bellows on first attempt pushed as hard as i could, even tried ratchet straps to add extra torque on second attempt. The bell housing hinge pin holes were past the gimble ring holes and it still won’t mate the bellows. Is there a method i am unaware of. Tempted to grease it to stretch then remove and replace. Open for suggestions. Thanks for any help

You attach the gimbal side first with the FWD" facing up.
adjust the forward clamp somewhat loose on the bellow
apply adhesive and push bellow onto transom side until it seats in the groove, tighten clamp

I believe all was done as stated, only possibility was the clamp was tightened more than the size allowed. Will check that first when home next. You make it sound easy hope it’s the clamp as problem.
