Hello everyone. I just bought this smokercraft fishing boat that has this 78 johnson motor on it 115hp. The issue is the boat runs mint on muffs but as soon as its in the lake it does not want to idle. I did a compression test and there is 120psi on 3 cylinders and 118 on the 4th. Id i get it to idle in the water it dies as soon as it goes in gear. It tryed to adjust the idle screw but its all the way in cant urn it anymore. When is dies after i put it in gear it takes forever to start back up i need to choke it then put throttle lever on high and it will start. Any help will be greatful

Does spark jump a gap of 7/16" on all 4 leads , yes or no.-----Stop trying to run this motor.----Find the problem.-----If a carburetor was plugged you would be starving one cylinder of gasoline and most important ----OIL----as well.----You could do serious damage.-

The question is ----Does spark jump a gap of 7/16" on a test device.----Your answer as it stands is a no.----Sparkplugs are not used to test maximum ignition output !

Next step is to clean the carburetors.----Make sure the jets in the float bowls are clean.-----They are screwed into the bowls way in behind that drain plug.-----New diaphragm ( $10 ) for the fuel pump as well.

I've cleaned the carbs last week made sure i could see through all the jets and ran a little telephone wire through the passages. Yesterday i ordered a rebuild kit for both and ill order a new fuel pump aswell. Thank you very much for your help i really appreciate it.
