Getting water in tank

Last time I ran the stingray 190lx it ran great for awhile then stopped. Poring fuel in carb started it right up. Checked water separator filter and it was diluted. How is water getting into my tank? And how to even fix something like that what looks to be apart of the boat itself. The only think I can think of is that I did change the sending unit that did take a week to come in. The hole wasn't sealed but just covered. I can't believe that much rain water got into tank that week. Is there a way to visually inspect the tank, if so what is the process. Thanks

Quite often the leak is the result of a leaking fuel cap. Check to make sure the seals in the cap are intact.

Depending on how much water is involved, you can either remove accumulated water via a coalescing fuel filter or siphon the water off the bottom of the tank.

To siphon, remove sending unit and raise front of boat as high as you can. Siphon the water off the bottom of the tank.

I fabricated a siphon from 3/8” copper tubing (36” lg.), 3/8” fuel line and an old primer bulb to start the flow. Works like a charm.

After siphoning out the water add a bottle of fuel stabilizer such as K-100 to the tank.

I can see the need if using non-ethanol fuel, but why add more alcohol if running E10?

E10 is the best daily use moisture absorbent on the market ;)

K-100 does not contain alcohol. And I know mechanics who swear by it. I've been using it in all my small engines, my truck & wifes car for years & never had a problem with it.

Whatever, but I'll defer to a mechanic who has been in the business for 40 years & owns his own shop & boats, motorcyles, more vehicles in his lifetime then I can count including muscle cars & uses the stuff in every single one of them.

Even experienced mechanics fall for the bamboozle.

I only made a suggestion. If the OP doesn't want to use it that's fine. Nice job calling a product a "bamboozle" that you know nothing about. Have a nice time.

There are no mechanics in a can! Don't tell me that I know nothing about it. You said there was no alcohol in it. Does your mechanic sell the stuff?

If I said he did you'd claim he was trying to push a "bamboozle" on customers. Btw, at no time did I suggest that there's a "mechanic in a can". Your words. I merely made a suggestion that the product, added to the OP's tank may help to remove condensation/moisture. There are many fuel additives which are nothing but snake oil containing wood alcohol. This product is not one of them. Whether you agree or not is inmaterial to me.

Have a nice time.
