I have a 5.0 and it starts and idles perfect but when I throttle up it bggs down. I recently put new gaskets on the carb. Is it possible I knocked my float level off causing a fuel starvation issue?

Anything from float level to fuel pump to blocked carburetor passages or a bad accelerator pump can cause your issues. I'd be doing the carburetor rebuild again, and pay particular attention to float level and making sure you run every passageway. Double check the check balls and passageway for the accelerator pump. If that doesn't get it, check fuel pressure.

I had changed the fuel pump first and inadvertently bent the metal fuel line. I just picked up a new one. Earlier I opened to check my bowl and found a small piece of what looked like gasket material in there. I’m hoping that between the 2 I should be ready to rock.

Maybe it was air in the new fuel line I’ll run it more later and work the kinks out. May end up raising the float level it’s at 14mm?

Why did it overheat?

How did you rev it up? Not under a load? Not hooked to muffs with water? Why would you think that the thermostat is the issue?

Air in the fuel line would blast through the needle valve and not matter a bit. All in all sounds like the carb rebuild needs redoing and the timing checked.

I’m thinking the muffs weren’t on tight enough because I was loosing water around the sides. Not under a load. I had removed the thermostat so I’m waiting on the new one to do much more testing.
