Volvo says the part is obsolete (motors are 2008), they have no substitution. Dealer is telling me to just get some new motors @50K. The ECM part number is # 3885478

Some ideas we are working on.
1. Calling all part houses in the USA, UK and Australia and the ebay one in Belarus. so far no one has a solution or a part.
2. Get them repaired - 1st tech said they couldn't be fixed, trying another place.
3. Get blanks and get them reprogramed (is this possible), which blanks? and how do I find the software and someone to do it?
4. Get ECM from a Mercrusier (since they both used 8.1 GM block) but didn't know how feasible this is I'm sure alot of parts would need to be replaced.
5. New Engines.

Certainly I'm not the only one with this problem.

Thanks for any information you might have.

Woops
Wonder what the difference between yours and a later one like -F

Have you tried https://www.boatunlimited.com/
Well we did send them to a place in Arlington to fix, not sure if this is the same place or not, but he didn't even try/or couldn't fix them. Right now they are in VA, if this person can't fix them I'll check this website and see if this is a different place than the original one.

I've looked up other similar motors 8.1 Gi... from Volvo and they are all the same story, No ECM's they just aren't available for some reason.

Any other ideas are welcome.

Electrical components are in very short supply right now. Anything that requires electrical components to build or repair is going to be affected

Components that normally took 2-3 week to deliver are know quoted in months....
The CPU boards used in our equipment have gone up almost 30% and quoted delivery went from 3-4 weeks to maybe 6 months.

We ordered six (6) CPU boards back in March with a promised delivery in November. As of yesterday, the suppliers till don't know if they will have boards to ship by November. The entire electronics industry is affected

Well I get this. But this boat is in the middle of an insurance claim.. insurance company is aggravated its not fixed mean while I'm still paying alot for it to sit unused. It's stressful. I need to know. 1. Will they ever have them again? If not the boat is totalled and needs to be paid by the insurance company.

The short answer is probably not anything in the near future.

Hearing things may start to come around by the end of Q4 but that's just speculation at this point.

In the process of informing customers that we are upping our quoted delivery on new systems from 18 to 26 weeks. Assuming supplies don't tighten further.
