1996 5.7 Chevy 350 Carb Volvo outdrive 24 Albemarle.

When I turn key on the oil pressure gauge tacks out to full pressure without starting engine.

I have a normal oil pressure sending unit then this piece in the first picture below that is I assume an oil temperature sending unit???? It also looks to be missing the male end as these two wires plug into the head of this on two little prongs... Picture number 2.

No matter how I plug unplug these two items the gauge will still max out when key is on without engine running. Since I don't have an oil temperature gauge on the boat the I wonder what this item in picture one is doing? The wires appear to run to the full pump somehow?

Thanks in advance for any advice........

first pic is the oil pressure switch for the fuel pump, second pic is the oil pressure sender for the gauge. remove the blue wire, gauge should go to "0"
If so, your sender went bad. If no, a short to ground in the wiring at the helm or gauge itself

Thanks for the quick response! Ok I found the part that I need for the oil pressure switch to fuel pump. It’s only two wires and needs a plug to plug connection. Pic below of this part.

I unhooked wire on top as you described on the oil pressure sending unit and gauge is the same so I will now go and look for bare spot grounded in that wire. I will also test the unit and gauge if needed here is some other info I found.

Thanks again for clearing up which part was what......
