I have an 84 Chris Craft 3.0L that I ‘ve been having some issues with after warm-up

The boat runs great for the first 30 min. or so, after stopping for a while (30-45min) and then running boat again it will run fine for about ten minutes then it will start cutting out, skipping etc. Seems like Ignition to me or something becoming heat soaked and starting to fail, coil maybe? I haven’t been able to troubleshoot when issue happens as that’s the time I usually have to take the boat out.

Boat has rebuilt carb, new points, condenser and Fuel Pump. Timing checked and o.k.

Thanx 😊

Try replacing the rotor, what you are describing is something that was pretty common around here. It would get so hot it would go to ground. Mercruiser started supplying a rotor that the blade was slightly longer and that worked. Try to get one from Mercruiser or just have a few on board. If it starts cutting out stop and change the rotor and see if that helps.
Also is the rotor shaft tight enough where you can cause the points to change the gap? If the bushing in the block is worn then the points will not hold a steady dwell and gap.

I will just go ahead and replace the rotor, as I was not aware of that. TY

I did not mention in original post, but the distributor has been replaced with a used one I had for the exact reason you mentioned. The shaft had a lot of play in it and I had suspected it was causing point gap to change. However, that was not the cause of the skipping/cutting out issue.
