Eagle , Scat rod question

I am at the point of deciding on either re-using my old PM rods or buying new forged steel rods. It has been suggested not to waste money on reconditioning my old rods , when new rods are about the same money. I can purchase a bore dial gauge to measure my old rods for out of roundness. But is it wise to reuse the rod bolts as is? I am building a 5.7l Mercruiser to replace my fire slotted gift. The motor was a 1995 0F786416 . I will put Vortec heads and intake on. Otherwise stock .
Now how are the off shore made i beam 5140 rods form Scat and Eagle? They are very affordable , but have the quality control improved? I can get either set delivered to my door for around 460.

Thanks,
Carlos

Eagle is crap, (was, is and will continue to be). SCAT is what all 3 of my prior engine builders recommend. While they are still sourced off-shore, their quality control is much much better.

complete SCAT rotating assembly with LCQ pistons from https://www.competitionproducts.com/ is the lowest cost you will find.

I smell a 383 conversion in the offing. If you're going to the trouble of a full rebuild, then it's not a great deal to drop a stroker kit in. The only thing you'd need to do is have the block bored to accommodate the new pistons. This one looks like it's might be right for your engine. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/esp-b13504l03068

Under $100 difference to build a 377/383 or a 350/355 if you are buying a rotating assembly

Thanks Lads,
My block is already bored and honed for my 30 over pistons. The 383 sounds interesting. I would need a new crank but that is doable .The only problem is I would have to go to a Bravo out drive . That is not so doable. Just out of curiosity, what kind of torque and horse power would a stroker give me?

Plenty of 383s in front of A1G2s. Hust need to watch your hole shot and use a rev limiter

Check prices on getting your crank reground....then compare to new. New usually costs less

Nope, a mild 383 is quite ok with an Alpha Gen II...
With standard heads (non-vortec) and the standard Merc cam, around 310hp, but a bucket load of mid range toque, which is what you are chasing in a boat.

Thanks,
I will be calling my machine shop tomorrow. Need to see what they will charge for balancing .
This has possibilities , I am after the mid range torque. I have a non vortec intake already.
A rev limiter would be good also....teen age kids == wave jumping.

Vortec head version is 340 hp, 425 lb ft torque. Agree with the others dont hammer it too hard and a gen 2 will hold up ok.
This has the stock hp and torque numbers

You already have TB-V, which has a rev limiter. (Which will be set at 4750rpm)

No my TB-IV is from my 305. I did not get the ignition with the fire slot gift motor. Does the TB-IV have a rev limiter?

If the boat is proped right it shouldn't over rev. If the prop comes out of the water jumping waves can take out a drive even with a rev limiter
