Lower unit is completely off
The young man said that he had it running and that's when he noticed that it wasn't pumping water and shut it down in a test tank. I replaced the tiller handle assembly and found that a 1986 Johnson tiller handle worked for a perfect fit. So using a 5lb sledge hammer head as a slide hammer, will work ok?As motors get older and older there will be more of these stuck driveshafts in my opinion.-----Folks rarely take them in for authorized service like they did 40 / 50 years ago.-----Cost of labor scares most folks.----Electronic ignition means that motors usually start and there is no reason to visit the shop / do any maintenance.
I will run a compression test, there is no discoloring at or around the surface of the head.Any discoloring of paint on the cylinder head ?-----I suggest a compression test on any motor that is new to you, if only for future reference..----Avoids you spending money on a dud as is often done.----Seen it many times.----Just because a motor " runs " does not mean it is in good condition !!
