Hi group. I have a 1959 Evinrude Fat Boy 50 Hp engine. Is there a way I can put a Tach on the engine ? Thanks in advance.

Here is a link to a 3rd Party Service Manual(one of the Better ones), it is a PDF, so it can be downloaded.

You might have to resort to using an Inductive Tachometer. If you feel you need one to pick a prop, not to worry there are only two Props available for that engine, initially it was a 13 x 13, and later it was a 12 1/8 x14, both tend to yield similar rpms

A smooth running / powerful motor.-----But the reputation of an inefficient user of fuel.-----I can identify one by the smell off the exhaust !!

1/3 the fuel was burned, 1/3 was pushed out the Exhaust, and the last 1/3 was dumped via the Crankcase Purge Valves

I have searching the Various sites with Documents on old Motors but haven't come up with anything. I would think one of the M terminals on the Ignition Switch, would be where a tach would be hooked up, but I am not going to say to do that just yet.

In my 1977 OMC Accessory Book, it shows two Tachs for Magneto Outboards, also useable on the 4 Stroke I/O's of the day.
Part # 172077 and #172926. So maybe an Automotive tach might work.
