Just starting off, I've read just about every thread about this engine I could find, and I still cant seem to figure it out. So I got this engine around 2 years ago, it was dirty not used in a good 4-5 years. used to be a tiller model but had a throttle control installed, some weird wiring for the starting motor but it all works. I got it running the first night I had it, after I Did a complete rebuild of the carb/ replaced fuel filter. did the impeller and got a spark gap tester to check strength of ignition coils because I read they go out often on this motor then I had it on the water, ran for 10 minutes then quit on me, kind of sounds like there's a bit of ignition going on but no luck on or off water starting. got around 70-80 for compression on both cylinders. fuel is getting to the cylinders because the spark plugs have a put of oil/fuel on them when I turn them over without wiring connected. Im at a loss and am running out of ideas. was told maybe timing was off from the flywheel slipping But idk. sorry for the long read.

Hi...I had one of these from a few years later..started really well...but there is knack to it for sure.. I found that it started best with choke out and some throttle for first pull or two...then she will kick...turn choke off, pull again with throttle and she will go...If you keep the choke on...she will flood and not start.

There is no choke on that motor. Have you looked at the carb? Serviced the primer? Double checked the wiring is correct? Serviced the carb itself?

Yeah there is...you pull out the fast idle knob for the choke...

That is a primer not a choke.
Fair play. Maybe splitting hairs perhaps. Not the traditional choke perhaps, but you know what I mean. It just squirts a bit of fuel in there when you pull it out. Some call it a choke primer.
I’m sure you knew what I was referring to. I get what you are saying though. Fair play.

I have checked all wiring and done a complete rebuild of the carb. everything is set right, there is strong spark and fuel getting to the cylinders.

With motor cold put some fuel in the cylinders.-----If it barks and roars that way , you rule out everything but carburetor / primer set-up.
