Have to agree on that newer style Merc single point drain, I've never seen so many plastic fittings, hoses all over the place, just to avoid doing what it SHOULD have in the first place, a closed cooling system! With that you can use a pressurized tank hooked up to the muffs and run -100 AF through it and be done. I would never install a new or reman engine without closed cooling.
I bet if you added up the cost of all those plastic bits, hoses etc, the closed cooling is not that much of a cost penalty, and is so much BETTER, because it is pressurized and cools better and prevents corrosion if maintained.

OK quick question. As I stated before I am leaving my gimbal bearing in so what I am going to do is use a wire brush to get all the corrosion off of the bell housing but I would like to paint it with a good black paint. Does anybody have a good recommendation? Should I use an animal or what? Also, how in the world do I get my water intake hose taken off of the boat?

OK, here is some before and after pictures of my motor mount/stringer replacement. Didn’t come out to bed really.

When you remove the drive and if you have the remote oil res for the drive CUT the oil hose in half before removing the housing. If you snap the plastic nipple end you may have to remove the motor to fix it. If not the motor then the steering cylinder for access.
Been there done that!
When I did my first bellows job I didn't know the transom bulkhead fitting was made of plastic.
How insane is that?

Well, I wiggled the hose and the plastic barb snapped right off. It snapped very easily. I didn't put much pressure on it.

I had a devil of a time reaching behind my V6 engine and all the power steering mechanisms.
I got it done by contorting my body and stretching my arm back there. Only one arm could get through all of that.
I think it helped that I have the sport seating with the huge sun pad engine compartment lid.

Not sure what you mean.
Are you asking how to remove the old hose or are you questioning the route of the hose?

Remove the barb clamp on the fwd side of the gimbal housing, two 1/4 - 20 bolts hold the barb fitting in place

You're talking about the large water hose, not the small drive lube hose, right?

Do you mean on the engine side of the transom or outside, back by the outdrive?

It is on the outside of the boat, the hose that goes from the gimbal ring and it looks like it goes through the transom

It's been a while, but isn't that hose held on with a hose clamp?
Alpha style hose is held to the barb fitting on the aft (outside) side of the housing. OP claims to have a bravo 3 setup which is held in place as I described earlier.

Side note, OP has a 1990 sea ray, bravo 3 did not enter the market until 1993

Ah!
Yeah, I didn't realize it was a bravo 3. My bad!
Sorry if I confused things.

The hose goes from the outside of the boat into the transom. I’ve pulled & pulled on the damn thing, it’s not budging..

@ericarr, reread post #27. Once you see the barb fitting on the inside of the gimbal housing (engine side, in the bilge) it will make sense how to remove the hose once you get the fitting off

sometimes you have to use a bit of heat and a couple of picks to move stubborn hoses, a little silicone spray helps too.

Ok, this is the hose in question. I did take off them 2 bolts from the inside of the transom but the thing isn’t budging..

It uses the special tool posted and the plastic piece is unscrewed from inside the boat
