Help with 95 Evinrude 15hp outboard

My father recently passed away and I have gotten his boat that has a 1995 Evinrude 15hp 2-stroke tiller motor. I don’t know anything about these engines. Is there a way I can test this engine out at home? I know with some engines you can hook up a garden hose? Unsure how to do that, or if it’s possible with this motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Always enjoyed fishing on this boat with my father and would like to continue the tradition with my son. Thank you!

Those are a sweet running motor.------Install a new impeller for water pump now.-----A big 35 gallon plastic garbage can makes a good test bucket.

If your just starting to learn then get your a repair manual for this motor. With your model number you will likely find one right here in IBoats. YouTube can be helpful as well but look for videos that come from what looks to be a shop rather than some kid in his driveway. When you get started and have question on a problem this is the place to come for help.

Thank you! I actually found a pair of muffs in the garage. Put some fresh fuel in it and fired up on the 3rd pull. Excited to get it out on the water soon!
