Picked up an old outboard to potentially restore. Anyone know what make/model or size motor this is? I can see where the once was a badge but it's all gone.

Pre 54 as there is no Air Silencer on the Carb, or enough space to put one. Early 50s, probably a 5hp. Evinrude

It is a Gale Model 12D11, built 1954-55, 12hp, Sold under various brand names such as Buccaneer, Sea King, Sea Bee, etc. Only difference is the color, decals, and trim piece. Your trim piece should help narrow it down, if I could just remember which would apply.

Wrong trim piece to be a Buccaneer brand. Search continues

Actually, I think it is a Frankenmotor. I see lots of old Buccaneer brown paint. The ugly green repaint suggests a Spiegel Brooklure, and the white powerhead = ??? Anyhoo, I am going to mark it as a Montgomery Ward Sea King. 1957 version below.

The Swivel bracket on the on in the Post #1 is Remote capable, so it probably is a bunch of cobbled together parts. The colour of the paint on the gearcase and the underside of the Gas Tank is a light blue. The 12hp in the pic above doesn't show an integral tank

Yeah, the basic motor started out in 1954-55 as a 12D11 with integral gas tank. In 1956, it got a remote tank and rubber mounts and enclosed powerhead as a 12D13 and the 12D11 also continued as a 12S12 (S for Standard). Standard and Deluxe continued to be sold side by side for a few years, So, the 1957 ad showed a 12D--whatever. Are we confused yet?

BTW, racerone probably would recognize it by the Canadian version, an Eaton's Viking.
