No acceleration. Idles in gear. New champion spark plugs, new coils spark on all compression around 105 on all. Rebuilt carbs. Timing set correctly, carb adjusted to manual. Just won’t take off. Dies instantly Any ideas?

Is the Throttle Cable hooked up? If so, does the Linkage move as the Lever is moved?

Yes all linkage is connected and opens carb butterflies
Before carb rebuild the boat sat for 2 years. Lots of gum. Smoked and sputtered.

Engine will rev up by hand with butterflies to around 4000+. Just not in gear or with handle controls.

Well, the carbs stay fully closed until very late in the Throttle, almost all of the timing Advance happens before they even move a fraction from fully closed. Is the Ignition Plate, under the Flywheel rotating when the Throttle is advanced?

Let me clarify. It does open the butterflies but it seems like a very long travel before they start to move. I’m not sure how much travel the handle should have but it’s from 1-3 o’clock at least

I haven’t removed the flywheel but I see the timing plate moving

When you say timing set correctly, what did you do? What procedure was followed?

Since there was a lot of gum, how sure are you that all carb jets/passages are spic 'n span?
