Hey guys, I have a 1967 Johnson 40 hp electric shift outboard. There is no shift today obviously so I can’t fir the life of me figure out how to drop the lower unit. The seloc manual is not helpful & has no info for this motor. I can’t find anything that will unhook the lower unit. I wanna change the impeller & possibly the shift cables. Anybody know this exact motor & how to drop the lower unit? All help is appreciated.

Thank you Mariner Supreme! Appreciate the response and your time, I just had some silly questions: I am new to boating and boating terms, I am also new to America so could you please point out to me what the rear cowling and exhaust cover are on this motor? I tried googling them and looking at the mania it did not help. I will undo the shift wires and attach a line so I can pull them back up later, I have already removed all the screws on the lower unit but there were only 6?

Lower rear cover #16. Remove it. You will find the Screenshot 2022-09-20 113318.jpg shift cable and another big bolt holding the lower unit.
