What prevents the engine quitting entirely instead of momentarily when shifting from forward or reverse into neutral. The interrupt switch itself is not momentary. Diagrams on line do not show any additional pc board. 1685621732504.png

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... When in the water, the cable pulls the switch, 'n as soon as it goes into neutral, the cable lets the switch return to the center,.....

The switch is not used on inboards because they have a transmission

It is used on I/O and it works by spring action. When shifter is going from in gear to neutral tension comes in and the switch moves just a little which causes the motor to stumble and unloads the clutch. Once this happens the switch returns to center

See Bondo was quicker

the switch is also always open, when pushed in its closed , IE: when you push the lever forward it activates..
easier explanation (insert head scratch meme here) it works opposite to a normal momentary switch

Thank you. I am still mistified, if you go to the neutral position and stay there, why does engine not quit.

Ayuh,.... It's the tension on the cable pulls the big plastic rocker which activates the switch,...
It shifts, then there is no more tension on the cable, 'n the big rocker is spring driven to center, the switch opens again,.....

yer picture above is missing the rest of the assembly,....
