Hi folks!

I have a 2007 Volvo Penta 4.3 with a cracked block. I have done a bunch of research on what blocks I can buy to swap it out with.

After hours of research I ended up buying a 2009 4.3 vortec GM engine from a Chevy 1500. I got the motor all stripped down to long block and it turns out this motor won’t work. The timing change cover has crank sensors on it that won’t fit and the knock sensors ports are different as well.

Can someone who has more knowledge on this explain to me what GM long blocks will ACTUALLY work for my 07 4.3 Penta swap

Please and thank you!

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... I believe you can swap the timing chain covers,.....

The knock sensors just screrw into the block drain holes, Right,..??
Swap the fittings,....

The 2007 penta 4.3 has a different bolt pattern for the timing cover than the 2009 donor 4.3 engine. Also the the harmonic balancer doesn’t fit and the drain hole on 1 side of the block has a 28mm metric thread hole..

Can anyone with some more knowledge on this let me know what year engines will be a direct swap?

Why not just buy a reman engine of the same year and model that has a cracked block? I think the cam is different in marine engines vs car or truck engines. A reman is really the way to go as you never can tell with a used engine.

for your 2007 VP, you will want to get your hands on a 2003-2007 block

which is remarkably similar to the 1996-2002

2008 and later are not in the same family

What I gathered together from engine builder mag a while back didnt gather anything newer than about 2000
