Greetings,

Model E25ELCTD , Which I believe is 1983 (ish). Cable single lever remote controls . . . electric start.

The shifting F-N-R is very stiff and takes an excessive amount of effort on the control lever to get the motor to shift in and out of gear. I've taken a quick look at the parts diagram for this motor, but wanted to get input and or common remedies before I start pulling things apart.

I've applied penetrating oil to the 'lever shaft' (#39) and 'actuator cam' (#88), but it did not seem to help. I am wondering if the shifting difficultly is more likely in the lever/cam area or in the gear case itself.

TIA for any help on this.

Take the cable off the motor and see if the hold up is the cable or shifter at the motor.

Sorry
For some reason I was thinking you had a remote shifter in the mix.

I think it was clearly stated that it is a remote controlled motor.

If I take the cables off the levers at the motor, the control box operates easily and smoothly. The shift lever at the engine is what's quite stiff.
