Ignition switch

I had to rebuild my helm. The existing ignition switch turned my motor over. I have a Johnson 88 special. The original switch came apart so I ordered a replacement. The post on the new switch all aligned with the original switch. I swapped one wire at a time. The new switch will not turn the motor over. I can jump the solenoid and the starter turns the motor. Does anyone have a suggestion on this?

wires oxydize and..some break ... make certain you see 12V on the S post at key START and 12V on the B post. .

if you have 12v on the S post at START and the neutral switch is OK trace the S wire back to the solenoid.

year hp and mdl of engine ??

It a Johnson 88 SPL 1988. I hooked up the natural safety switch this morning. I checked it to make sure it was working and it is. This other information you I just read should help. I won’t be able to try any of these till Tuesday. I’ll keep the tread posted.

I bro not have 12 volts at the B post or the S post on the on position. I have continuity on my battery wire which is red and purple to the bus bar on the motor.

Okay I’m attending my meter to the neg. Battery post and reading the volts on the B post. Is this the correct way?
Yes, that is correct way to measure

If no power after the connection then measure backwards toward the Bat until you find it again

if you have a fat side connector take it apart clean it , twist it or wiggle it
to see if power suddenly shows up on the B post of the switch

probe female and/or male for power on the fatter red wire.. power comes from the fuse and goes t the switch B post you MUST have 12v from the fuse

Thanks everyone I finally figured it out. It was the fuse. Cranking over with ignition switch. Next is changing the water pump so I can get it running.
