My outboard drains a full battery in ~2-3 days while off (key off, not accessory). This happens when it is connected directly to the battery. Where could all this power be leaking?

B+ from the battery goes directly on the solenoid mian post where other wires connect ex: rec/regulator output, power to a fuse then to the key sometimes etc....

if you suspect a drain somewhere the only way to find out is to diconnect those extra wires on the solenoid and with key OFF test for voltage between the main B+ and those wires. you should see NO power (voltage) ... if you do put your VOM to 10 amps AMPS IN SERIES and measure who and what amps the suspect wire is draining.

I doubt the main solenoid B+ post would drain the battery...but anyting is possible if the internal contacts are touching and leaking B+ into the starter windings ...

btw could be a bad battery :-(

I would think the voltage regulator is the main suspect, provided the wiring is in good shape.

I can testify that they can and do drain a battery, three times now ;)

One boat, two trucks

I would check the bilge pump for a possible leak as well.
