Thanks no luck with Dealer I will try Raylarcontact your local VP dealer. May want to also contact Raylar Marine. They used to play with the 8.1's 15 years ago.
Thanks I called them they said their website is wrongFound one but do check to make sure they have it because others close to it are closer to $3500. Cost is $1909
VP site list as dealer only without price. OBD Diagnostics list some for Gi but not the H

That's a good call. I have definitely read of such a thing previously AD. No means an expert on such things, but certainly aware and been witness to other ecu governed marine engines to have apparent ecu issues or suspected ecu issues, that are caused by or result in a short to earth somewhere in the associated circuitry. Alternatively, by water intrusion to the delicates of the ecu itself, causing a similar affect, byway of short circuit or earthing faults around the pins or components.Don't know why its needed but many times the 8.1 which uses the Ford IAC starts to draw to much current and burns the ECM. Known problem but no fix to keep it from happening
Thanks I called them today no diceWell, doubtful they have it the following place suggest they have one in stock, Still worth reaching out.

Hi...likely that you've diagnosed the ecm to be the item at fault, no doubt...but is it worth me asking what the symptoms are, if that isn't the case ? It isn't unknown (unfortunately) or even uncommon for the ecm to be an easy to blame item when ideas or a level of ability from a dealer has been exhausted, often when the blame lies elsewhere, like a short or bad earth around the main harness or ancillary items and their circuitry.
Just thought I would mention it anyway.
I sent the unit to a guy to rebuild and he said there isn’t anything left to fixMight be in the harness as well but try this.
Take soap, water and soft brush and scrub the unit real good. Then hang it in a box (cardboard, metal) with a 40 to 60 watt bulb. Leave it there for a few days to a week.
Use to do this working for the Navy. We would take all the weapon system circuit boards and do this to them before testing and repair
I guess continue to search for an ECM I don’t know how you would get spark without a distributor Seems like it would be more work to go that routeWhat next then?
Can you convert to a 4 bbl carb?
