Custom built wave knocker on the bow...I don't see how he'll see where he's going in a seated stern position. Can't tell the HP on that motor. Looks underpowered considering carrying 500 lbs of fuel. I applaud the effort tho...lol.

Can't watch it, as I am Permanently Banned from Facebook
I have four different identities. I have to screw with the idiots.

Here is his response to me about the record.

Joe Mckeehan there isn't an organization that keeps a Great Loop Speed Record... it is unofficial. The Internet and gps trackers have made organizations like Guinness less relevant. The current Great Loop record was openly done with a public gps tracker and is reported in the Great Loop page in Wikipedia. My attempt could likely be several firsts and fastest.
1. Fastest overall
2. Fastest Solo
3. Possibly first tiller steering jon boat?
4. I will break my current World Record of longest continuous journey by jon boat of 2,405 miles when I did my adventure from Port Townsend, Washington to Skagway, Alaska and back.
Maybe some other?

Sounds like he knows what he's doing.
Yeah but those speed guys are speed guys. Plus after 3k plus miles a bunch of shoreline looks like a bunch of shoreline.

We toyed with the idea using our small cruiser, good fuel burn at about 22 mph. Way faster than hull speed all the time.

Glad I'm not the one trying to run a jon boat offshore between Charleston and Sandy Hook on a fixed schedule.....lol

Diamonds Shoals has humbled and claimed the lives of many experienced mariners.

he did a 2000 plus trip to alaska and back. We'll see.
Cake walk compared to what he can encounter taking the offshore route around Hatteras to save time instead of taking the ICW

Here is one persons adventure taking the outside route

I go down to the cape every year. I always knew it was a horrid area, just not how horrid... Then we went to the graveyard of the Atlantic museum one year and I really learned from some guys first hand exactly how dicey it is.

It's one of the few times I've ever been on a beach on a calm day and still never seen a boat on the water. Gorgeous area, wouldn't run it personally...

My home away from home.
Life member of a couple of the local Anglers clubs.
Heading down Friday for 10 days

It's all about conditions at the time.
I've fished the shoals and beyond many times. Problem being, you need to pick and choose your days wisely, knowing full well that things can and do go south in a hurry even in a seaworthy boat. Can't image trying to run those waters on a predetermined schedule with 60 hp and a jon boat
