This motor ran fine a couple years ago. I tried starting it and it would only run if I primed it, and stopped after a few seconds after the fuel was used up.

I put another carb from an Evinrude on it - exactly the same carb - and it runs fine. Starts readily and idles good.

Before trying the Evinrude carb I tried - 1) manually cleaning it, 2) soaked it 24 hours in carb cleaner, 3) took out the welch plug and cleaned those openings and put on a new plug, and the motor still doesn't run with the original carb on.

Does anyone have any ideas what else I can try? It's not a big deal, I'm just trying to get to the bottom of what the problem is with this carb.

Thanks!

make certain the side vertical channel feeding fuel to the upper idle screw and chamber below the welch plug is clean 100% ! and idle screw packing & nut is tight

Why are you not using the good carburetor ?
Trying to fix broken small outboards is kind of a hobby for me - I got some from my marine mechanic. I don't use this motor on my boat. I'm just trying to learn. I'd like to understand why this carb doesn't work.

All fuel must go through the " orifice plug " in the bottom of the float bowl.----Make sure it is CLEAN.
