Looking to add a 12 gallon fuel tank as a secondary tank for a trip to Canada. Want to increase range.
What I would like to know is if anyone has has success with adding a quick connect in the fuel line at higher HPs (like my old 1983 115 merc 2 stroke) and not having fuel flow issues.

Is there a reason a regular 9.9 style quick connect off a 6 gallon set up wouldn't work at higher flow?

Different quick connects use different fuel lines. You need a quick connect for 3/8" fuel line.

Make sure the quick connect seals when disconnected, or it will suck air into the fuel system.

You might use a fuel selector valve instead. A much better idea as they should seal well.

What Chris said. If you go with a quick connect, I prefer the Chrysler round connecters above the regular two pin connecters. They seal well and don't leak for me.
Have you used them in larger outboards? Ive used similar ones on a 25hp outboard and worked fine, i but them on my 115 and they restricted flow causing bogging at anything over 75% of wot.

You have to get the correct fitting for proper fuel flow. There are several sizes.

I haven’t myself but I’ve seen them on bigger outboards. Those belonged to other customers.

Most 115HP motors like yours will be ok with 5/16 id fuel line. Larger HP motors including Merc V6 motors need 3/8" or larger. I understand what you are trying to accomplish, but sometimes quick connects can starve to engine of fuel. I do not think it is an issue with the IL6, but watch for RPM drop at WOT.
