Two questions.
1) Where does the little black ring gasket go?
2) Is the orange coating on the larger ring gaskets supposed to be temporary/sacrificial? I ask because the orange coating fell off as I installed them onto to shaft.

Looks like an Alfa/Bravo combo kit.

Black one goes on the drive unit input shaft where it goes into the gimbal bearing

It is a OEM Mercury Precision Parts Kit (made in China and Italy) labelled Bravo I,II, III. I doubt its a combo unless Mercury chose to delete Alpha from description.

With tpenfields advice above found it does go on the gear oil line, on the helmet/bellhousing side. I was fixated on the outdrive side where the water seal goes.

Still wondering if its normal for orange coatings to fall off during installation?

Thanks. 5 out 6 aint bad :) That one you labelled extra also fits on my bravo 3 shaft. You were right the little black one is the gear oil line on the helmet. I was focused on the outdrive and that is how i got confused.

What you all use to hold/glue these in place for install? Just rubber cement?

I little bit of marine grease will hold the o-rings in place while you install the drive. Glue will be less ideal.
Ayuh,...... I use grease too,......
Maybe abit of perfect seal, if the funky o-ring/ gasket thingy wanted to fight,....

Hi Bondo; Thanks. Can you comment on if the orange coating normally peels off the orange ring gaskets during install (rolling em down the shaft) revealing they are black underneath? Or is that orange coating needed to stay in tact? Mine peeled off.

Ayuh,..... No worries, the o-rings just snug against the shaft, inside the gimble bearing,...
