Coupler alignment

Dropped in the new motor (5.0GXi) and trying to align the coupler/engine to the outdrive (SX). Right now, after some adjustment, the bar slides in like butter, but there are still heavier lines at the 3-oclock position. How do I adjust for that location? I know how to move it up or down, but not side to side. Pictures show the 3-oclock and then the 9-oclock for reference. I bumped the motor (couldn't turn by hand) about 120 degrees and everything stayed the same.

all depends on your front motor mounts, how you removed the old engine and how you swapped the motor mounts to the new motor
It your mounts are slotted ,loosen the lags/bolts loosen the rear mounts, and shift the motor, then retighten and recheck

I left the bottom of the front mounts in the boat and just removed the front and rear mount nuts to pull the motor. I figured that would be the best way to get the new motor to line back up. The rear mounts have the washers in the recess so I am not really sure what to move. I guess I could loosen the rear mounts and push it back and over and tighten it down while it is shifted. Probably would only take a few thousandths. I hate to loosen the lag bolts since I have them sealed up to prevent water intrusion into the stringer, but I could reseal.

Ayuh,...... That would be best, as most bottom mounts are slotted,....

I can't seem to get it to stick in a new position. With heavy lines at 3-oclock (as viewed from the rear) do the front mounts need to go towards that direction or away? There is not much adjustment since the rear washers are sitting in the recess.

Towards . . . You will also want to rotate the engine at 90˚ intervals to see if there is any difference.

I usually try to get the sideways alignment dialed in before I do the up & down alignment. I never liked the way the I/O engines have their alignment set-up.
