Good day all,
So, removed the lower unit to replace lower shift cable, while it was off I split the lower unit for some skeg repairs, I can't get the drive spline to line up, due to the vertical drive shaft on the lower not budging. Prop shaft will spin, can shift into fwd, neutral, rev, and the prop will catch the clutch for all gears, but will not move that drive shaft at all maybe 1/8th inch. The boat ran prior to the repair.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... Probably because of the resistance from the impeller,....

Took the impeller out, pour some gear lube down from the top end to see if anything was just dry. Still no movement, I can get about a 1/8th" back and forth that is all.

oil based products will destroy rubber.
If you removed the impeller and it still wont turn the lower unit is damaged

If your trying to put the outdrive back on, Is the shifter in the forward position/full throttle? If so it will line up, you have to turn the prop slightly to match up the splines. There's many videos on YouTube to help you achieve your goal.

Currently it is sitting the the work bench, can only get 1/8th back and forth with the vertical drive shaft.
when you say it was running - this spring or it was running last year and now you are trying to get it water ready? What does the gear oil look like?

It was running this year had it out, gear oil looked okay had a bit of water in the oil I would say it was changed anytime recently, the boat is new to me.

moisture in the gear oil is not good, if the unit was drained and left empty the bearings could have rusted. Remove the pump top cover and the shaft must turn by hand. If not something got seized
