Wanted to clean out the power steering fluid in my old 1986 boat. Was planning on just ordering up some Quicksilver Fluid 858975!Q01. I assume that works for old boats? Any other recommendations or thoughts? Was just going to use a a siphon to pull out the fluid in the plastic tank and refill a few times during the season.......

I just use automotive power steering fluid on my 87 Mercruiser 260. It's all automotive parts in the PS system anyhow....no marine magic going on there.

Ayuh,..... Atf is another option for oil,.... Or hyd. oil, or a light weight motor oil,....

To do a simple one time flush, pull the return line off the P/S cooler, direct it into a catch can, start it, have the steering wheel turned side to side, 'n pour fresh oil into the reservoir as the level goes down, when clean oil comes into the catch can, stop, 'n put things back together,.....

I've used atf for years, no issues. It's a simple pump And doesn't get the abuse a transmission does.
