Installed shift cable, should prop spin free in reverse?

MC1 drives here. I’m reassembling after a motor out transom rebuild. I also had my drives rebuilt. I bought rebuilt transom assemblies, and I just reassembled and installed the shift cable. Everything seemed to go together by the directions and when I put the shift lever in forward gear, the prop locks in the counterclockwise direction. When I put the shifter in reverse in the prop free spins in both directions. Is that right?

That is correct for fwd gear. the reverse may just need adjusting

So do I adjust the lower cable for more travel by moving the shaft on the cable end side lever up?

Nevermind. I didn’t follow the second half of the procedure. Line it up in forward. Rotate the barrel four turns. Adjust stud up as needed.

OK, is it safe to assume I can fiddle with the barrel on the drive cable to get it to lock in both forward and reverse? When I adjust the stud as far as I need in order for the reverse to engage, forward nolonger engages. Assuming that is acceptable I have it adjusted to the point where it engages now in forward and reverse. On another note, reverse needs several prop rotations before it locks. Does that mean I need to adjust it a little further?

Move the end of the upper shift cable up in the slot. If an mc1 iirc the lower shift cable is adjusted to 5 ⅞" instead of 6"
