shifter adjustment

I have an updated shift interrupter switch on a 1991 mercruiser alpha 1 gen 2 lower unit . I have been trying to adjust the shift linkage . currently when I shift into forward
the switch goes back to normal position also in neutral. when shift into reverse the switch remains closed and I am unable to move the switch up or down . I have taken this apart and reinstalled under the guidelines and instructions . I am sure I am missing something ?

in have a 1991 mercruiser 5.0 alpha , I replaced the lower unit that was damaged with a used gen 2 from EBAY , ever since that I have had problems with shifting and the shift interrupter switch shutting the engine off completely . does the shifting cables need to be readjusted with just replacing the Lower Unit ?

No it shouldn't.
