I just found a parts catalogue on Ebay for the Volvo Penta Aquamatic 80 stern drive. It shows a photo of the large round oil cooler that this boat has.
So it's an AQ 80 which was the original model introduced in 1959.
Google AI says,
The Volvo Penta Model 80 engine, a 1.6-liter, 80-hp unit, was first used in a sterndrive prototype developed by Jim Wynne in the spring of 1958. He purchased it from a Volvo car dealership and Volvo Penta was marinizing it.
This engine was then directly bolted onto the sterndrive prototype. Following intensive testing in Gothenburg, Sweden during the autumn of 1958, the first real drive was fitted just before Christmas.
"Note: This engine appears to have been developed and utilized in the late 1950s, specifically around 1958, in connection with the development of the world's first sterndrive, the Aquamatic.

That camper looks pretty-cool, and must be a hoot to pilot! Your sketch and plan to resto-mod the boat, then take an ocean voyage in it are inspiring. Your mariner-skills must be top-notch too. Looking forward to seeing/reading about your resto-mod and journey!

Thanks for that! I've been pondering what to build on top and have discovered the Lone Star Cruisemaster model of 1954-6. Lines like it means business. I intend to build a near copy. I'm looking forward to towing the boat behind the Flyer in our town's 4th of July parade as a pair. That will be a hoot. This boat I got has sat in the Az sun for 30 years. It's a real resurrection. 1751932367241.png
