I have this 99 25hp I recently bought. Initial issue was a damaged stator wire, which I repaired with a heat shrink crimp, I intend to replace the stator. The plugs look clean, maybe on the lean side if anything, but definitely not black and built up, and not chalk white. it goes through spurts of idling beautifully and then it will go into a misfire, it might idle along for an hour without issue, the. When you shift back to neutral and try to accelerate or go back to putting along it will go into running rough and want to stall. If you take it out and run it at high throttle for a little while it will go back to idling fine. I found that the plug wires were full of too much dielectric grease and wanted to pop out, so I bent the ends a little so the held better and removed some of the grease. After that things improved, but it still has issues. I suspect that the fuel pump is not up to par because it seems to run much better if you periodically give a squeeze or 2 on the bulb. It acts to me like 2 separate issues, one fuel which is solved, at least for diagnostic purposes by keeping the bulb primed, and an ignition issue. This is my first small/modern Merc, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
