Ok I’ll try to keep this short. I have been repairing outboards for 30 years, been in hundreds of gearcases. This one has me stumped. 115 Etec S2 with the bolt that goes down into the pinion instead of the nut under. New fwd and pinion gear. Reverse is good. Different prop shaft but same part number.
When I tighten down the keepers for the bearing carrier, the drive shaft will not turn. Something is binding.
The gearcase was operating other than a couple teeth chipped off the two gears I replaced. The prop shaft was twisted so we put a used straight shaft in it.
Any ideas?
Also if I keep the bearing carrier loosened up, the drive shaft turns fine but feels like the lower driveshaft is floating around and is rough.
All honesty this is my first two piece drive shaft.
