I have a 1991 Bayliner Capri in board outdrive L drive that was overheating so I replaced the impeller. The alarm would go off before I replaced the impeller plus it melted the rubber around the wire of the alarm so I knew it was getting hot. I removed the alarm that goes in the head and it looked good still so I put it back in and put tape around the melted part of the wire. Also, when I took the old impeller out, it was shredded I don’t think I got all the shredded pieces of the old impeller out because when I ran it with a new impeller after replacing it out of the water a water hose hooked up to earmuffs, the alarm went off still. But then I backed in the water and the alarm doesn’t go off, but the motor gets very hot. I know it’s supposed to get hot from running it but it just seems it’s getting too hot. What is the running temperature that it is supposed to run at idle?

Ayuh,..... I'd think 140* at idle on the muffs,.....
Until you find the rest of the shredded bits, yer going to have problems,...
How beat up was the housing when you changed the impeller,..??
Any gouges,..?? ridges,..?? grooves,..??
It has to be in perfect condition to work right,.....
