I am removing this stern drive so I can remove the 2.5. It’s in a 1987 and everything I look at says it should be a bravo one. Where it gets hinky is the speedo cable is not under the exhaust but mounted to the boat. Also the rod for the tilt does not have c-clips but nuts on both ends. The serial number is faded away except for maybe two digits . Thanks for the help, Don
Oh and the wasp nests appear to be aftermarket.
I don’t seem to be able to upload photos, something about couldn’t be uploaded to the server

A 2.5 four banger will not be powering a Bravo One. Not sure what you mean by a "speedo cable"...most boats have a pressure tube that uses water pressure to function the gauge. I know you can't load pics but if you search the 'Net and find what you have, you can post that as a link that we can then open.

Was making it too hard. Took off the 8 nuts, removed the rod, one tug and it came right out. Looked like it had new grease inside. Is that lower unit inspectable to see if anything is hinky inside? Thanks

For sure, the best inspection is to tear it down totally.
Most people just drain the oil and look for contaminates such as water and metal particles.
