Starting the engine and it has idled and warmed up for a while... with temp good ..
I add throttle but the engine only gasps and dies , meanwhile the clutch button does not pop out to engage the drive.. this results in paddle deployment Is there something out of adjustment?

3.0 merc(carb) 1952 bayliner cuddy 1995manufactured thanks

Might be fuel might be spark but need to do some testing

Being a 1995 you might have EST ignition but might have TBV, motor serial numbers help us figure out what you have

Pull fuel sample from fuel/water separator, and look for corrosion under the distributor cap. Rule those two issues first as they are the most common and easy to check

Fuel was in a 2 gallon jug , fresh 2 days old... I use a modified outboard hose to deliver direct to engine , later I switch it to main tank. The plugs and Distro were checked and cleaned with little dirt...

it’s only dying when you shift it right? Does it die when you throttle up in neutral?
Not always , it is hard starting and the positioning of the throttle seems off, I have found this title

Alpha Gen 2 Stalls Going into gear (Shift Cable Replaced)

I have a new shift cable but the old cut off switch/plate , then there seems to be a new plate that needs to be moved to have the new cut off work. I think I'm caught between different parts for different models of the switch cut off.? Even if I get the new cut off plate it has got to go to a new location , somewhere on the transom ? my unknowledgeable speculations...

thanks
