I've got Two Mercruiser 2016 vintage 6.2L 350 HP (CAT) DTS engines that I will be sending off to a good home at some point. I anticipate needing to run these engines on their pallets at some point (testing, demonstration, compression test, etc).

I've run carburated engines out of the boat before, pretty much like a slam dunk. . . But these electronically controlled engines are a different beast. I assume that if I pulled all of the digital throttle and shift stuff out of the boat, I could probably mimic their connectivity in the boat.

Just wondering if there is a short-cut type of approach to get them to run (at least at idle speed) with some basic connections.

@Fun Times , @Scott Danforth , @muc @Scott06 . . . Others?

TIA for any guidance on this question.

If you have to remove the DTS rigging anyways that would be easiest to run it out of the boat.

Or are you keeping it for use with merc outboards? or does it not work that easy...

Ted, this is outside my realm of knowledge. I believe that DTS is CAN based and needs the network dragged over to run them. (speculating). I did recommend having a video of them running on the hard prior to pulling them.

I can reach out to a former employee in the controls group at Mercruiser come monday.

Thanks guys. I have videos of them running in the boat. I am just anticipating if someone want to see them running after they were pulled.

I did see a video of a 6.2 running on a stand on marketplace a while back, didn't see controls or anything while he circled so it must be possible.

My understanding is that little of the Mercruiser stuff is workable with the outboards . . . besides, my stuff is 10 years old, I'm sure there are updates to these components since then.

As such, I figure it is best to send all the DTS stuff with the engines and get new with the outboards.

I'm also going to see if the Diacom software has some sort of test run mode that would simplify what needs to be connected.
